Stephen P. Ormond

Stephen helps companies navigate legal shoals, particularly when litigation is anticipated or in process. His large company in-house law background and subsequent private practice experience have driven solutions for business opportunities and controversies ranging from regulatory, environmental, engineering, competition, distribution, intellectual property, corporate control to foreign company presence in the United States.

Since 1977, Steve has counseled companies in a variety of matters.

For example, he assisted a European manufacturing company resolve claims arising from distribution arrangements in the US by both defending the resulting lawsuits and negotiating a series of business transactions. He helped an engineering company defeat three-state litigation brought by another company, recovering the legal fees in the process. He defended an investment company against claims arising from unexpected and extraordinary market moves in numerous jurisdictions. He represented a well-known company in a series of successful copyright and trademark enforcement actions. He oversaw a lawyer secondment program for a European company needing on location US lawyer skills in international transactions. For years he has represented an international franchisor in Michigan regulatory matters and in helping to develop nationwide franchise structures.
