Richard Halm

Senior Attorney

Richard “Rick” Halm guides clients in preparing for, responding to, recovering, and learning from cybersecurity and privacy incidents. With a passionate information security background, he also advises businesses on the benefits, risks, and necessary governance structures of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. He leverages his breadth of cybersecurity knowledge to negotiate contractual provisions related to cybersecurity and advise clients during regulatory investigations.

Rick’s breadth of experience within the incident response landscape- from leading incident response at the cyber insurance level, to experience at one of the nation’s largest health insurers, to his time in private practice, all blend together to allow him to approach cybersecurity and privacy incidents from a unique vantage point. As a US Army veteran, he blends this vantage point with an ability to bring order and calm to complex and high-stress incidents.

He works with clients that fall under every regulatory schema- from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLBA) and various state statutes.

Rick is in the process of obtaining his Master’s in Cybersecurity from DePaul University and a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) (CIPP/E).
