Energy Attorneys Sheryl Sweeney, Jerry Worsham, and Daniel Herder acted as general counsel for Southwest Public Power Agency, Inc. as it agreed to terms with BrightNight to deliver renewable energy to Arizona customers.
The Power Purchase Agreement between SPPA and BrightNight enables the delivery of 300 megawatts of solar energy and 600 megawatt-hours of battery storage power and is the most significant renewable energy solution in SPPA history.
“We participated in all aspects of the negotiations between SPPA and BrightNight, and we’re very pleased with the outcome for both sides,” Sweeney said.
According to a press release published by BrightNight, power will be supplied by BrightNight’s Box Canyon project in Pinal County, Arizona. The project is a joint venture with Cordelio Power and recently completed its final major permitting milestones. It is expected to begin operation in 2025.
“SPPA is proud to supply its members with safe, reliable, and affordable electricity from an industry-leading renewable power project,” said SPPA Project Manager, Dennis Delaney. BrightNight was able to understand our long-term goals and propose a solution to meet the needs of our members and their customers, while remaining cost-effective.”
SPPA members provide approximately 880 MW of power to over 2,100 square miles of largely rural Arizona.
